The LIONESS (looking good, on a kill above) we managed to spot 3 times this month, a little bit better than in May. The best sighting we had of her was in the South on a kill, this time an adult zebra. She prefers the southern plains and is not looking like she wants to leave. She is still very difficult to locate but tracking her is always fun nowadays. We have also noticed that she has become more vocal lately and have heard her roaring a few times. I think she knows that there are new lions on the property in our predator boma.
I got a lekker surprise this morning when I woke up, Victor and myself heard her roar this morning at about 7:30am not far from our rooms. We took a drive down our access road a few minutes later and found fresh tracks of her about 1km from the staff village. We did not manage to find her but quite exciting!! I am guessing the reason she is around is to look for a male lion that was brought into our predator boma on the 25th, from Thembe. He broke out of our boma the very next day after he arrived and has been roaming around in his new home, exploring quite a bit. So good news. Our lion population has increased by 100%!!! The new male lion was tracked walking from our east gate back towards the boma past our access road 2 days ago. So the lioness is not far behind. It is going to be very exciting to see what happens in the next few days!!
