Big 5 Update
This month saw a decline in lion sightings. An outbreak of canine distemper among the western pride saw most of the pride succumbing to the disease. One of the western pride males was later spotted with the southern pride, who soon after started showing symptoms of illness. All the lions that survived were darted and captured by management to be treated in a quarantine boma, however none survived except a single female in the south that is yet to be captured.
The breeding herds of elephant have moved to the northern parts of the park and have been leading all the guides on a merry chase of hide and seek. However, down in the south of the park, a few lone bulls have provided some lovely, up close sightings for guests. On one drive, we were treated to the sight of a young bull challenging an older individual, complete with a clashing of tusks and angry trumpeting from both individuals. What a wonderful sighting!
