Lion (Panthera leo)
This Lioness is still in the South, the bond between this Lioness and the Dinokeng Lion is now ever so strong, as they were seen mating for about 4 consequtive days in the latter part of August. The Cubs of about almost 8 months are very well looked after, she would hide them the whole time when she was with the Lion. We only saw them as she moved away from her mating partner in the last days of August. Unfortunately we only saw 3 cubs and not 4.
This male is staying in the South and will ocationally move to the central-western part of the Reserve. The dinamics of the Lions in welgevonden is working out so far, as the Dinokeng Lion is staying in the south and the Tembe Lion is staying in the north to north-western part of the reserve, but he would still patrol the southern part of the reserve, up to west and eastern central part and vocalize, like he did in the beginning of the month when he moved through our Lodge again.
The Tembe Lion was seen in the far north-western side, close to west gate with the uncolared Tswalo lioness. They werent mating as she is already lactating, but he would help her on the hunt and they brought down a young giraffe together close to manual gate (north of West Gate).
Still have not seen this young male, but he has been reported to be far up north on the fenceline
The lionesses were not seen together this month and the reason for that is that the uncollard Lioness dissapeared into the block between Kolobe road and site 16. It is with great pleasure that I can anounce to you that we have 2 more cubs added on welgevonden. As we saw her on Kolobe road close to open area where she was carrying the cubs to a new spot.
